no SIP voicemail notifications? Post Reply with Quote Edit/Delete Post Report Post to a Moderator       IP Information Go to the top of this page

I am not receiving any SIP NOTIFY's when a new message is waiting for me. If I unregister and re-register the extension, then a few seconds after successfully registering I receive a NOTIFY message but it indicates no messages waiting, even though I know for sure that there are messages waiting. I think that this message needs to be correct for SIP clients to indicate when voice messages are waiting?

Here is a trace from one of my clients...

Hello DAK,

if you click submit changes for your extensions once the voicemail notifications will work better now. However, I am not sure what the Message-Account: field should look like. What do you think?

Thanks,
Pascal

message-account Post Reply with Quote Edit/Delete Post Report Post to a Moderator       IP Information Go to the top of this page

I'm guessing here, but I think that the message account is a sip address that a soft phone or ATA can "dial" to get to the voicemail system... equivalent to dialing *97. So, in my case it could be "sip:dkerr-101@pbx.i-p-tel.com"

I read in the Sipura user guide that you can access voice mail box by dialing the phone number assigned to the Sipura. For this to work, the Sipura needs to know how to connect to the voice mail system... and my guess is that this is provided in the Message-Account field.

Also, RFC3842 (http://tools.ietf.org/html/rfc3842) states...

In some cases, detailed message summaries are not available. The
status line allows messaging systems or messaging gateways to provide
the traditional boolean message waiting notification.

Messages-Waiting: yes

If the Request-URI or To header in a message-summary subscription
corresponds to a group or collection of individual messaging
accounts, the notifier MUST specify to which account the message-
summary body corresponds. Note that the account URI MUST NOT be
delimited with angle brackets ("<" and ">").

Message-Account: sip:alice@example.com

In the example that follows, more than boolean message summary
information is available to the User Agent. There are two new and
four old fax messages.

Fax-Message: 2/4

After the summary, the format can optionally list a summary count of
urgent messages. In the next example there are one new and three old
voice messages, none of the new messages are urgent, but one of the
old messages is. All counters have a maximum value of 4,294,967,295
((2^32) - 1). Notifiers MUST NOT generate a request with a larger
value. Subscribers MUST treat a larger value as 2^32-1.

Voice-Message: 1/3 (0/1)

I'll test out the changes you have made and let you know how it works with my Sipura 2002.

Thanks,
DAK

Voice Message Waiting indicator is now working for me... Sipura 2002 receives the NOTIFY message and recognizes that there are messages in voice mail box. The Sipura is then sending the correct signal to my phone which flashes the message waiting light. Similarly, once I delete the messages the light goes out.

I have not tested new/old messages to see what happens with this. But I'm happy now that new messages are being correctly NOTIFY'd.

By-the-way... the "play next" setting is still not working. I still have to press 6 after deleting a message for it to play next message.

Thanks
DAK
