Hi,
Am trying callwithus as a cheap option but am having problems with callerID to UK numbers. I have tried all the available trunks but always get 'private' displayed.
If I leave username blank and set password:username as per a voicetrading trunk then I see a callerID (a UK mobile number) that I don't recognise.
I think an alternative to Voicetrading may be required as I recently got an e-mail from them stating that username and password settings need changing to the standard username and password fields, or it "may lead to connection problems in the near future".

Our records show that you are currently not using the proper VoiceTrading
connection server settings.
This may lead to connection problems in the near future, which we of course
would like to avoid.
Therefor we would like you to make sure that the following settings are
being used:
Username: Your VoiceTrading username
Password: Your password
SIP/Proxy registrar: sip.voicetrading.com
Domain/Realm (optional): voicetrading.com
STUN server: stun.voicetrading.com
If your current settings are different, please change them as described'.
I hadn't realised that callerID would be a problem, I use it to match the DIDs for each department and to assign costs.
We have to contact many temp staff each day on mobiles, they wouldn't pick up a call without ID as its likely to just be telemarketing.
Actually, passing the proper CallerID to any PSTN phone, is one of the biggest challenges in VoIP.
As it is, I am not sure why Betamax would change their policy on this, but for the people who rely on this method it is important to ensure there is an alternative. There are other ways to pass CallerID, but Betamax should clarify which one they intend to use in the future.
Getting a straight answer Betamax is notoriously difficult, but the attempt should be made nonetheless.
We use voicetrading too and also have the username / password set as previously detailed to show CID. I also got the e-mail to which i replied asking for an alternative way to pass CID. I haven't received a reply.
It's important for us to be able to pass the CID of our inbound numbers as many of the people we call will not answer if they see the CID as withheld or private.
In the last 3 weeks we have been experiencing calls dropping to most destinations after about a minute of connecting. I'm not sure if this is related to their e-mail or if we have another problem. Other trunks with other providers don't drop calls - just the VT ones.
Can anyone suggest who we could contact to get an alternative way of passing CID? They don't seem to be answering e-mails. The reason we signed up with VT was because it was possible to pass CID.
Don't hold your breath on getting an answer, but you can try posting in their only forum. It seems to be down currently, but let's hope they revive it soon.
It would be disgraceful if they don't offer an alternative and force you to change the settings or stop them working, especially since they require a $500 dollar initial deposit of credit.
bobmats, have you started to experience calls dropping on voicetrading? It seems that our calls that go through VT are dropping after anywhere from 2 to 15 minutes. I am wondering if this has anything to do with that e-mail they sent out about making sure the account details are correctly filled in.
Of course they haven't replied to my support query.
I haven't had any reports of calls dropping, but I have noticed a few calls failing to connect (which then connect immediately via the Voipcheap backup trunk).
