specific route Post Reply with Quote Edit/Delete Post Report Post to a Moderator       IP Information Go to the top of this page

Hi,

This might sound confusing, so let me try to explain... I'm trying to have a specific phone number use a specific outbound route when I dial it, but I want other numbers that begin with that area code, to go over a different (cheaper) route.

So I have in the "numbers starting by" of outbound routing.
Route 1: -
0044161xxxxxxx
0161xxxxxxx
08

route 2:-
00
01
02
and a few others.

Now, it seems to ignore the fact that I've put the entire phone number in route 1 for some reason and it tries to go out over route 2, due to the 00 match. If I remove 00 from route 2, I get no route and it hits my VM.

If it helps, the number (0044161xxx) is set up as a classical extension, which my phones divert to during the day.

I know I can just put 00 in route 1 but I want to use route 2 for those except this specific number. I don't want it going out over route 2 as this is the trunk it comes in on. For some reason, voipcheap don't like this. When I try it, I get a US style ring tone, then it hangsup after 12 seconds and they even charge me for the ringing.

So. Is there a maximum amount of characters I can have in the "numbers starting by" box?

Hope that makes some sort of sense...
Thanks

Since you are trying to route calls to a single number over VoIPCheap, declare the complete number 441612345678 in the Custom Dial Patterns of Route 1, by omitting the two leading zeros.

In general, regarding Dial Patterns, try to be as specific as possible depending on the destination of the route. For example, fixed lines in the UK are 0[12]xxxxxxxxx and mobile numbers are 07[1-57-9]xZxxxxxx which is more precise than 01 & 02 that does not specify the length of the number.

Hi,

Thanks for that, I actually had to include the 00. Strange (to me) that it works in "custom dial patterns" but not "numbers starting with"

cheers for the pointer anyway smile
