I have configurd G.729 passthrough and tried it successfully between a few extensions and PSTN calls. Monitoring the traffic with Ethereal confiormed that G.729 was in use on both call legs (ext to ext) or outgoing leg from ext only for external calls.
Over the past hour we have experienced several problems with both SIP 503 and 486 errors and a couple of silences too making the service unusable - although a couple of calls have succeeded.
Is there a problem affecting G.729 traffic - all our devices are actually set for G.729 only to prevent PBXES from initiating a G.711 call leg which our Internet link can't handle. (It would be nice if we could specify a priority on CODEC selection per extension for call legs originating from PBXES).
Also this is occuring when only a single call is being sent through PBXES so I can't see that channel usage is the issue.
As all our internal extensions are set for G729, our outgoing call provider (Voipcheap) accepts G729, we have disabled Audio Bypass and when testing we are not waiting for the voice messaging I assume from the various well dispersed posts that I would not expect problems because PBXES provides G729 passthrough.
