Android Phones over SIP Post Reply with Quote Edit/Delete Post Report Post to a Moderator       IP Information Go to the top of this page

In addition to Nokia handsets you can now integrate Android phones directly over SIP protocol with your virtual pbx.

A beta version of the SIP client has been released today on http://sipdroid.org
It runs on the new Android OS version 1.5.

For further reading please have a look at PBXes >> DOCS section >> Fixed Mobile Convergence (FMC).

This is very interesting.
Are there any features that available only when used with PBXes (besides tweaking and optimizations for mobile device)? I mean any special integration beyond standard SIP-based functionality?

The special integrations are:

  • Simultaneous Outbound (allowing you to call all numbers of a contact at once),
  • Video reception,
  • Trigger callback (if no suitable data network available), and
  • Track location to call page.

T-Mobile Android Phones over SIP Post Reply with Quote Edit/Delete Post Report Post to a Moderator       IP Information Go to the top of this page

I had tested T-mobile Google tel. with Pbxes. worked fine with w-lan. It did not work with T-mobile data service.

This beta version of the SIP client require 3g/Edge from provider. although T-mobile claims they have good coverage of 3G in Chicago but I did not succeed to connect Pbxes.

That shouldn't surprise you! T-Mobile does not allow SIP traffic to pass over their 3G / 2.5G network in many countries. They are not about to loose revenues due to VoIP. This has nothing to do with coverage.

Plenty of articles have discussed their "strategy" and the various excuses used in each country:

How difficult would be to allow SSH tunneling?

Even if SSH was enabled, I doubt the handsets can support the encrypted RTP stream, with the required packet per second (pps) rate.

Tried it on Rogers Canada 3G network, it works, but sound is very choppy, so here it seems to be usable on wifi only.

The real problem is lack of support for Bluetooth headsets. Any plans to add it?

I am not quite sure what you mean. Are there any Bluetooth headsets which support SIP on their own?

No, I just mean that currently sound from sipdroid can be sent to speaker, but not to BT headset.

What SIP port sipdroid listens to?
I'm curious because if it's 5060 and there are other SIP agents on LAN using the same port there may be conflicts.
(I know NAT *should* handle it, but there too many cases out there proving that home routers are not always good at it)

Sipdroid listens to TCP port 5060 to simplify NAT traversal, see http://code.google.com/p/sipdroid/wiki/NewStandbyTechnique

Hi

Is there an Android soft phone that supports G729 Codec for low band communication over 3G?
The Sipdroid application does not have that and quality of calls is not as good as it should be.
We upgraded our account to have this codec, but need to have a mobile soft phone for that.
of course something that will work well with the PBXes switch.

Dany
