Achtung E61 New Firmware (December 2006) Post Reply with Quote Edit/Delete Post Report Post to a Moderator       IP Information Go to the top of this page

For the E61 there is a new firmware available that can be installed via PC by using Nokia Software Updater. Caution: In some forums we could read of users reporting problems while flashing the update. These problems can result in damages that need to be repaired by a service center.

Also there is an annoying software bug: After completing the update and restoring all settings the SIP settings need to be deleted completely and re-entered. Otherwise the phone will not even register although the SIP settings look OK.

Is this sotware upgrade worth the trouble it causes?

Is there any link to what this update actually fixes? I looked through the europe.nokia.com site but couldn't get any specific info on it.

Is this firmware upgrade only for the E61 or does it also cover the E60 & E70?

I've been using Version 3 firmware for a couple of weeks and am generally please. The NAT transversal seems better in my uneducated opinion. They say that the system now supports stun, but I could not find any stun server. I almost wonder whether Nokia is just hosting its own stun server and pointing all the phones to it.

The phone seems to handle memory issues better. From a VOIP perspective, one nice new feature is that you now can hunt for and log on to open wifi in one mouse click. I'm not sure how that client works with hotspot issues yet, but it was real nice in the airport lounge last week.

Not relevant to this forum, but I think there is a slight incompatibility between the new version and Dataviz Roadsync. Roadsync is Dataviz's implementation of MS Active Sync for the E61.
