Is this still an ongoing issue?

The DNS situation should have been resolved at least 12hrs ago. Granted, there is a delay of up to 48hrs for the DNS zone updates, but any decent DNS server should have had completed their zone updates by now.

In order to help you get through this, you might try using these IPs as DNS servers: 208.67.222.222 and 208.67.220.220. They are provided from www.opendns.com and they take their DNS service extremely seriously.

They wouldn't have been able to help in the DNS outage, since they are not setup as authoritative nameservers for the pbxex.org and pbxes.com domains, but one of their policies is to never cache domains beyond the limit of their TTL (Time To Live) settings, which helps a lot after an authoritative nameserver's outage, as well as when the IPs change for a domain name.

Seems like i am not the only one complaining. The solution has been provider here but should have been communicated better to customers. although pbxes is for communicating, communication to customers here is not really the best thing they offer. Do it yourself and find out yourself is how it works and doesn't work here.

Zitat:
For the phones it is sufficient to temporarily use 188.40.65.148 no matter which of our servers your account is hosted on.

If you have problems accessing the web interface you might need the following IPs if your browser has not cached them:

www1 http://188.40.65.148
www2 http://216.75.41.112
www3 http://78.46.102.143
newskyvoip http://124.108.37.233
www4 http://64.118.93.76
www5 http://91.121.209.5
www6 http://124.108.37.109

Hostway has just restored their nameservice. We will work on a more reliable configuration with them. If we have a DNS issue again we will send out an info by email to all customers. But please bobmats now bear in mind that you ealier asked for removal from the mailing list. Since 2005 when PBXes started this was the first issue of this kind, and happening during the night. Not the best premises for a 100% troubleshooting.

We apologise for any inconvenience caused.

This means that on your phone you have to replace sip.pbxes.org with 188.40.65.148

This way phone register direct through the ip and that worked for me.

to access the webinterface see the abve ip's for www1 2 and so on.

I understand that a lot of people are mad about this failure, including me, but since the affected DNS servers are in operation again, it is preferable to use FQDNs instead of IPs.

When these IPs change, and they will, albeit infrequently, all these IP phones and ATAs will have to be re-provisioned again.

If you are going to implement a manual procedure, to provision the SIP UAs with IPs, one alternative would be to run a basic DNS server at home or the office, and manually maintain that list. This way changes will happen at one place and all phones will be getting their DNS info from the internal DNS. The second place DNS can be the Internet provider's DNS, or a third party's DNS like OpenDNS.

This solution would be preferable, over using the IPs, and provides you with an extra layer of protection over DNS failure for any frequently used service and website you use. The DNS server doesn't need to be fancy, any Win2K or XP can do this, as well as any MacOS X or Linux variant.

When there is a will, there is a way.

I just want to add to this constructive thread that the outage did only affect the SIP link from the office to PBXes. If you have set up call forwarding on unavailable (as described under http://www1.pbxes.com/wiki/index.php/Fix...ile_Convergence) an automatic fall back to your mobile would have rescued you.

A similar problem can arise if your local ISP has a problem connecting you to PBXes. So setting your PBX up in a failsafe way is a must and very easy to accomplish with PBXes.
