05.09.2006 20:49 Forum: Providers

The problem with VoiceStick registrations (after the initial one) as Supernettel reported, and is reported elsewhere, is said to be the fact that a sip user agent (UA) must re-register with a non-cached credential request. In other words, when it's time to re-register, the UA must request a new nonce and not try to use the old nonce. Anything else will cause the SIP Registrar to reply with a 401 Unauthorized. This apparently causes problems with asterisk systems.

Any hope?

VoiceStick (i2Telecom) trunk drops registration after an hour and then doesn't register again unless you manually do something with it. Is there anything that can be done?

If I understand the question correctly, you just setup an incoming trunk and setup inbound routing for that trunk that says the destination is CallThru and give it a pin number. You call the number associated with the trunk, a voice asks for the pin and if you enter it correctly you can dial.

You need to have the DID pointing to that trunk. How you do that depends on the nature of the DID that you have.

Inbound routing for the trunk takes priority over the general routing for incoming calls.

For CallThru you need to have an voip provider with an incoming number (DDI or DID). You need to be able to set this voip provider up as a trunk on the pbx. You setup Incoming Routing for that trunk for CallThru with a pin number. You can also restrict it to specific caller-id. When the incoming (DDI) number is called the i-p-tel pbx answers the call and asks for the pin number. After entry of the correct pin number the pbx gives dialtone to the caller. The caller then dials a number just like a regular extension on the pbx would dial a number for a call. The result is that you can call the pbx from any public phone and then dial out from the pbx as if you had an extension on the pbx.

Skype does not use standard SIP protocol so you cannot setup Skype as a trunk on the pbx. I would guess that you could setup your Voipuser account as a trunk on the pbx, although it is not on the list of SIP providers that have been tested. Lingo probably does not release it's credentials so you would have trouble setting up Lingo as a trunk.

There are a number of other low cost European voip Sip provider companies that provide DDI's for specific oountries. There are also U.S. providers. You can also rent a DDI from a company like Voxbone and forward it to a provider that accepts SIP URI calls (and have that provider as a trunk on the PBX).

I got the same results for VBuzzer ... incoming but no outgoing. At one point it in the past it worked, then it stopped working and hasn't worked since.
