Recommendation for handset?

Hiya,

If you were to recommend a handset that worked well with pbxes, and didn't have a lot of extra features that weren't needed, would you have a recommendation?

We are about to purchase a few handsets to use on our new pbxes setup. Am I right in thinking that, as we intend to route all calls through pbxes outbound and inbound, then we do not need to worry about the handset having capability for multiple lines etc?

From what I can tell, other than a screen for CLI, and some programmable buttons for extensions and pbxes commands, most other features wouldnt be used?

It would be nice to be able to tell from each handset if there were many calls in the queue that they are logged onto, I'm not sure if this is possible though? I read another thread that the Grandstream with BLF setup could show calls waiting, but I think this is just with callwaiting setup rather than with a call queue?

Thanks in advance,

Jules

Hey Jules,

Just to be on the same page, your inquiry is for wired office desk phones, not ATAs or WiFi SIP phones or cordless phones with a built-in ATA in their base.

If the above assumption is correct, then you should also look at the Sipura / Linksys SPA921 & SPA 941 for non PoE or the SPA 922 & SPA 942 for PoE versions.

Depending on the geographic distribution of the team using the hosted PBX, or how critical answering the incoming calls is in your organization, you might elect to maintain two distinct PBXes accounts in separate servers. This would allow you to register your trunks (inbound for DIDs & outgoing) in both PBXes accounts.

In this case you will have to look into 2-line phones, which support separate SIP registrations (extensions), one for each server. A phone book which supports SIP URIs can also be very useful for calls between the PBXes accounts.

Thanks, yes we're talking about wired desk phones smile

Is there a way to show the call queue length (as opposed to call waiting) on these Linksys phones?

regards,

jules.

For better understanding, the wired office desk phones Sipura / Linksys SPA921 & SPA 941 for non PoE or the SPA 922 & SPA 942 for PoE only differ with ATAs or WiFi SIP phones or cordless phones that the last ones do no have wire, Extension,... and not sit on desktop but major all in common that all above have built-in ATA .

Wireless SIP handset categories

Just to clarify this further, the only SIP phones which don't have wires currently are:

• WiFi only handsets with built-in SIP client.
• Cordless phones with built-in SIP client.
• Mobile phones with WiFi interface as well as built-in SIP client.

There a few choices in each category depending on your requirements.
