Conference setup with PIN

Hi,

would appreciate some help on setting up a conference with a PIN.

So far, I have created a classic extension which points to its own internal conference #. This works fine when external parties call the classic extn via the digital receptionist.

I am now trying to secure access to the conference by setting up an inbound route with a callthru PIN as detailed in other threads. So I have added an option to the digital receptionist with the same number as the classic extn. This goes to the inbound route SIP/Conf-callthru@pbxes.com.

However, when selecting this option, the call is immediately terminated and I cannot figure out how to make this work. I'm probably missing something obvious so thought I'd ask for some help.

Many thanks for any help in getting this to work.

RE: Conference setup with PIN

You need to set the PIN in the digital receptionist.

Example:

Digital Receptionist
- Menu item "1234" (this will be the PIN)
- - Dialing "1234" dials extension #555

Extensions
- Classical extension #555
- - PSTN_number 8555 (conference for ext #555).

Thanks MWD.

One question - with the setup you have suggested, what stops a caller from dialing the conference extension #555 directly from the digital receptionist and bypassing the PIN. Or is this just security by obscurity?

RE: Conference setup with PIN

Yes, it is security by obscurity inasmuch as the digital receptionist will let any caller dial any extension whether available from a menu or not - including the extension you use to forward to the conference room. To improve security, use more digits for your classical extension than you do for extensions that callers know about.
